Mountain, in my words

mendh : mountain

The Fennas word for mountain is mendh. The Indo-European root mendh- means to learn. Mendh was a King of the Isle of Man about 600 AD.

How did I come up with this word? The Welsh word for mountain is mynydd, the Breton word for island is menez, the Irish word for island is sliabh.

Island, in my words

elys : island

The Fennas word for island is elys. Elys is an uncommon last name. Elys is a first name that can be masculine or feminine. Elys Corner is a town in New Jersey.

I like that this new word is somewhat like Ellis, as in Ellis Island.

How did I come up with this word? The Welsh word for island is ynys, the Breton word for island is enez, the Irish word for island is oileán. In addition, island in Scottish Gaelic is eilean.

Water, in my words

duir : water

The word for water is duir. Duir is an unusual last name. Duir is a rare first name. In Ogham, an early Irish alphabet, the symbol for D is called duir (or dair), and dair means oak in Irish. In Sindarin duir means dark (plural adjective).

How did I come up with this word? The Welsh word for water is dwr (here w is a vowel), the Irish word for water is uisce, the Breton word for water is dour, and the Cornish word for water is dowr. In addition the Manx word for water is ushtey.

I've modified this word. My previous Fennas word for water was wuir.

Air, in my words

windy airaer : air

The Fennas word for air is aer. The word for air in Welsh, Irish and Breton is aer. They agree on that, and so will I. In Latin and Romanian aer also means air. In Estonian aer means paddle.
