Tin, in my words

tin ceilingsten : tin

The Fennas word for tin (metal) is sten. Sten is a Scandinavian masculine first name and a last name. Sten submachine gun. In Cornish (another Celtic language) sten means tin. In Danish and Swedish sten means stone. Sten is the name of cities in Sweden, Afghanistan and Romania.

How did I come up with this word? The Welsh word for tin is tun, the Irish word for tin is stan, the Breton word for tin is staen. In Cornish, another Celtic language, the word for tin is sten.

The picture shows a tin ceiling panel. I like seeing tin ceilings in old Victorian buildings.

The Fennas word for marsh (or swamp) is gorasc. Similar word gorascwrn (which I can't translate) appears in a medieval Welsh manuscript.

How did I come up with this word? The Welsh word for marsh (bog, swamp, fen) is cors, the Irish word for marsh, swamp is seascann, the Breton word for swamp is gwern or geun.

The Fennas word for forest is caolig. Similar Irish word caol means lean, slight, narrow.

How did I come up with this word? The Welsh words for forest are coedwig and fforest, the Irish words for forest are coill and foraois, the Breton word for forest is koad. I think that I can assume that the words fforest and foraois are not Celtic.

Sea, in my words

moir : sea

The Fennas word for sea is moir. Moir is a last name. In Manx (a recently extinct but now revived Celtic language) moir means mother, queen.

How did I come up with this word? The Welsh word for sea is môr, the Irish words for sea are farraige and muir, and the Breton word for sea is mor. In addition, the Cornish word for sea is mor, and the Scottish Gaelic words for sea are muir, fairge and cuan.
